Before you start

Like other drugs, alcohol is a controlled substance in New Zealand. Because of this, there is a robust process in place to make sure you will be selling alcohol safely and responsibly.

We recommend you talk to our alcohol licensing team about your application before you fill in this form.

What you will need

You'll need to provide supporting documents and plans with your application. To avoid delays and extra costs, it's important that you provide detailed, high-quality information.

Some of these documents will ask you to create plans for your business. Others will need to be applied for first through Wellington City Council or other agencies.

We strongly suggest that you have all of your documents ready before you start the form.

Other information you will need

If you are applying as a company, you will need to know information about the company's directors and shareholders. This includes their date of birth and country where they were born. You will also need to know if they have any criminal convictions.
